Symantec Corp., provider of information security, announced the first book published by Symantec Press, entitled "The Executive Guide To Information Security," (Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0-321-30451-9, $34.99). The book, authored by Symantec Chief Information Officer Mark Egan with Chief Information Security Officer Tim Mather, offers a pragmatic approach to evaluating information security at a company and putting together an effective information security program.

Focusing on three key themes -- people, processes, and technology -- the book is organized according to the steps recommended for executives to follow as they evaluate the type of information security program that best fit their business. Key elements of the program include staffing the information security function at a company in a proper manner, putting the necessary internal processes in place, and implementing the appropriate technology.

"Information security has outgrown its role as just a function of the IT department," said Egan. "Enterprises of all sizes are now dependent upon a computer network functioning 24/7. Combined with today's constant barrage of cyber threats, a company's information security function must be treated on the same level as marketing, sales, accounting, legal or any other mission critical department of a business."

"Information security is no longer just an issue to be delegated to a manager or a director," said Mather. "IT security is now an issue that should be addressed on a daily basis at the executive level, and, depending on the size of the company, all the way to the boardroom."

"The Executive Guide To Information Security" is the first book published by Symantec Press, the publishing arm developed by Symantec in collaboration with Addison-Wesley Professional that features books focused on critical and valuable information security topics. Purchasing information for the book and additional information on other books scheduled to be published by Symantec Press can be found at www.ses.symantec.com/symantecpress.
