PivX Protects Home Users From Windows Security Flaws

PivX Solutions, Inc., provider of next generation host-based intrusion prevention (HIPS) software for Windows(R)-based computers, announces the release of Qwik-Fix Pro Home Edition(TM), a consumer version of its enterprise software product that has been providing IT security protection to more than 200,000 users around the world for the past year.
Qwik-Fix Pro Home Edition is designed to protect consumers or small office users from falling victim to the next worm or virus before vendor security patches become available. Reactive security solutions, such as anti-virus software, are no longer enough to protect home computers against today's fast spreading exploits. Qwik-Fix Pro uses Active System Hardening(TM) to protect Windows-based PCs, by blocking the underlying vulnerabilities exploited by worms and viruses. The product also provides additional protection for the millions of users who do not have XP SP2 and will no longer receive security fixes from Microsoft.
"Building on the success of our enterprise version of Qwik-Fix Pro, we saw the need for home users to have the same level of PC protection as large corporations," said Rob Shively, chairman and CEO at PivX. "Given the increasing growth of personal computers and security risks in homes across the world, we created a tool that can be deployed and managed easily by the average computer user, without the need to worry about updating anti-virus software or installing patches issued by vendors."
"We have had Qwik-Fix installed since November 2003 and we have been protected against every worm and virus since then," said Lloyd Seely, IT manager at Arbitech. "Without Qwik-Fix Pro installed on our systems, we could have lost a tremendous amount of time and money due to recent viruses, such as Sasser and Bagle and their many variants."
PivX's expert security researchers have identified and fixed the root cause of most Internet Explorer (IE) vulnerabilities, namely insecure zone privileges and improper MIME type detection, through a series of 'Qwik-Fixes' released in September 2003. Qwik-Fix Pro has since protected users against all subsequent IE command execution vulnerabilities, including the recent IFRAME and Download.ject exploits.
The product works with Windows 95 or higher and offers the same level of protection as Qwik-Fix Pro Enterprise. Installation and configuration are managed directly on each local machine, making it simple for consumers to deploy and monitor. The product is priced at $49.95 for a one-year subscription, with special pricing of $34.95 through December 31, 2004.
