Burton Group announced a new research and advisory service offering. Security and Risk Management Strategies will provide in-depth analysis for IT professionals charged with developing, deploying, hardening and defending enterprise IT infrastructures.

Burton Group's Security and Risk Management Strategies (SRMS) will include a versatile suite of decision-making resources that help enterprise IT professionals address the following crucial needs:

* Risk Management
* Application and Content Security
* Perimeter and Infrastructure Security
* Security Concepts, Techniques, and Approaches
* Methodologies and Best Practices

"Information security threats and stronger regulations are continually raising the risk level, but enterprises are fighting back with layered defenses, security technologies, and compliance programs," said Dan Blum, Burton Group senior vice president and group research director. "Security and Risk Management Strategies will cut through the hype to help enterprise security staff master security technology decisions, and take a systematic, comprehensive approach to information security programs."

Burton Group has assembled a team of highly respected industry analysts to provide practical research that enterprise organizations expect from Burton Group. Dan Blum will lead the research service working closely with the SRMS team of analysts.

Security and Risk Management Strategies is designed for IT directors, architects, strategists, and engineers seeking in-depth and independent technical analysis of security processes and infrastructures, risk management, vendor strategies, products, and technologies.

"Without a tight strategy, managing security can be overwhelming," said Kevin Kelley, assistant director - IT, Principal Financial Group, "the shifting landscape of threats, regulatory compliance issues, and vendors makes it challenging to stay current and focus on infrastructure at the same time. We expect Burton Group's Security and Risk Management Strategies research to assist us as we continue to mature our security architecture."

The following research topics will be covered during Security and Risk Management Strategies' inaugural year:

* Patch and configuration management
* Web services security
* Anti-virus, anti-spam
* Intrusion-detection, prevention and response
* Governance and risk management
* Regulatory compliance
* Incident handling, forensics, disaster recovery
* Security event management
* Auditing and testing
