Bluefire Security Technologies announced that it has partnered with RSA Security to provide Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 Level 1 encryption protection for its mobile security products.

RSA Security's BSAFE(R) encryption software allows Bluefire to offer government-validated encryption capabilities across its product line including the only commercially available virtual private network (VPN) designed specifically for mobile devices with FIPS 140-2 Level 1 encryption. FIPS certification is required for processing and storing sensitive government data and is also used as a standard by many commercial enterprises.

"We selected RSA not only because they are a recognized leader in security, but also because they have an extensive product line that addresses the unique challenges of securing mobile devices," said Mark Komisky, Bluefire's Chief Executive Officer. "Bluefire's customers will benefit directly from this relationship as we expand the functionality of Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) Suite to include other solutions such as secure ID's, tokens and digital certificates.

RSA BSAFE(R) encryption, signature and privacy solutions for the enterprise secure business-critical applications in support of regulatory requirements -- common in healthcare and financial industries -- and facilitate the consistent implementation of corporate IT security rules and policies on mobile devices. The union of Bluefire Technologies' Mobile Security Suite(TM) with RSA's BSAFE(R) encryption provides customers with the most secure data environment available for mobile handheld devices. Bluefire's on-device encryption protects data "at rest" or stored on a lost or stolen handheld from unauthorized viewing, and Bluefire Mobile Security(TM) VPN technology ensures mobile enterprises maintain the privacy and integrity of in-transit data by creating a secure tunnel between sender and receiver.
