McAfee, Inc., provider of Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, announced that SAP AG, provider of e-business software solutions, has selected McAfee(R) Active VirusScan(R) for multi-layered protection against malicious threats. After comparing various product offerings, SAP selected McAfee based on its proven technology and unmatched security expertise.

SAP has more than 27,000 customers in over 120 countries run more than 91,500 installations of SAP(R) software -- from distinct solutions addressing the needs of small and midsize businesses to enterprise-scale suite solutions for global organizations. With more than 32,000 people in more than 50 countries, SAP needed to implement proven technology that would contribute to the smooth functioning of its business operations. McAfeeActive VirusScan, which includes McAfee VirusScan(R) Enterprise 8.0i and McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator(R) (ePO(TM)) 3.5, will provide SAP with threat protection software at the desktop and file server levels of the network, plus centralized policy management, control and reporting. With McAfee Active VirusScan, SAP will have robust protection from today's newest threats, including buffer-overflow exploits and blended attacks.

"In a comparison across several antivirus solutions, McAfee proved to have the best technology that perfectly matched our requirements. A key factor was the simple, central administration of the security solution via the McAfee ePO 3.5 management console. In addition to the functional benefits, we were impressed by the pre-sales and technical support plan offered for the implementation and productive operation phases. Ultimately, it was the overall package that confirmed our clear-cut decision," commended Ulrich Berlinghof, IT Director of SAP AG

SAP is implementing McAfee Active VirusScan across 30,000 of its desktops and servers, with a rollout planned in the third quarter of 2005. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, which is the first anti-virus software product to integrate elements of intrusion prevention and firewall technology into a single security agent, will provide advanced protection for SAP's PCs and servers, blocking and removing attacks even without signature updates.

"SAP ordered a product evaluation in response to the increasing demands placed on the performance of SAP's IT security team and its systems, and McAfee Active VirusScan proved to be the best choice," said Vincent Rossi, vice president of product marketing and product management, McAfee, Inc. "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i will proactively detect, clean and prevent both known and unknown malicious activity, hacker attacks and exploits from compromising SAP's PCs and servers. Since the solution is centrally managed by McAfee ePO 3.5, SAP will have the control and visibility needed to decrease lost costs associated with malware."

The McAfee ePO 3.5 management console enables administrators to manage and implement virus protection and broad system security on a centralized and transparent basis. The solution ensures that all necessary updates are in place for state-of-the-art virus protection throughout the company. In tests run by SAP, McAfee ePO 3.5 was clearly the best choice. The solution manages protection of desktop computers, file servers and groupware servers, including gateway, and covers virus protection, personal firewalls, anti-spam, content filtering and host intrusion prevention systems to offer comprehensive system security management for enterprise users. The system enables flexible implementation of security policies and snapshots of security posture & infrastructure to be diagrammed -- a key benefit given the complex and extensive IT infrastructure of a major company such as SAP.
