WatchGuard Technologies, Inc., provider of network security solutions, has partnered with Citrix Systems, Inc., provider of access infrastructure solutions, to deliver the WatchGuard Firebox SSL Core VPN Gateway with Citrix Secure Access to small and medium businesses (SMBs). Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies are expected to coordinate marketing and sales activities and anticipate developing additional SSL VPN products for SMB customers.

This agreement continues WatchGuard's strategy to collaborate with best-of-breed vendors in emerging technology areas and develop specialized security appliances. By leveraging technology from industry leaders and utilizing the strengths of its robust Firebox platform, WatchGuard can quickly and cost-effectively introduce new appliances that address emerging threats and market requirements. After extensive analysis, WatchGuard selected Citrix's SSL VPN technology, the Citrix Access Gateway(TM), as the best-in-class solution for the SMB market.

"Citrix is a natural technology -- and channel -- partner for WatchGuard, offering powerful capabilities that WatchGuard can fully leverage in its broad SMB channel," said Joel Conover, principal analyst at Current Analysis. "The combination of Citrix SSL VPN technology with WatchGuard's SMB-optimized hardware creates a powerful, easy-to-deploy SSL VPN solution with enterprise-class functionality at a price point suited to the small to medium enterprise market segment."

"Small businesses are increasing their IT security budgets to protect the vital communications and network infrastructure required to succeed in today's dynamic marketplace," said Mark Stevens, WatchGuard's chief strategy officer. "Remote access is a perfect example of this trend; connecting a mobile workforce is no longer solely the domain of enterprises with large IT staff to manage complex implementations. We believe that by leveraging Citrix's expertise in access solutions, WatchGuard can extend its leadership position in the SMB security market."

"Citrix recognizes the market opportunity for secure remote access for SMBs. By partnering with WatchGuard, Citrix solutions will be increasingly deployed by small and medium businesses," said Ross Brown, vice president, worldwide channels and operations for Citrix. "Given WatchGuard's product and channel reach into the SMB market, we see this as a way to attack this large market segment and broaden our channel reach."
