McAfee, Inc., provider of Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, announced that Enterprise Content Management company, Vignette Corp., has selected and implemented McAfee's range of network and system security solutions, including McAfee IntruShield network intrusion prevention system (IPS), McAfeeŽ Active Virus Defense suite, and McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise to help protect its business applications and data, as well as its customer training workstations.

After evaluating multiple vendors, Vignette selected McAfee IntruShield, which enables it to proactively detect and defend against attacks while monitoring and quantifying all network activity. In addition the company selected McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, a next generation anti-virus product that blocks attacks and extends protection against unknown threats, including buffer-overflow exploits, McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise, which uses proactive scanning to identify and safely eliminate potentially unwanted programs and McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) 3.5, which provides the centralized management and control necessary to adequately secure Vignette's desktops, laptops and servers.

In addition to a comprehensive product solution, Vignette selected McAfee's technical support program to ensure ongoing risk management and intrusion prevention support.

"We knew from experience that the potential network downtime from a single successful attack could result in a substantial loss of productivity," said Selim Nart, network architect for Vignette. "Prior to the McAfee solution suite, our systems faced almost 100,000 attacks per day that started to affect our ability to provide the performance needed to conduct business."

Due to the distributed nature of Vignette's infrastructure -- typical of today's complex network environments, and the value of the information housed within the network -- the ability to enforce strict security policies was an imperative requirement of the IPS solution. McAfee IntruShield's purpose-built hardware, and its architectural advantages which include the integration of signature, application/protocol anomaly, shell code detection algorithms and DoS detection and scalability and flexibility through Virtual IPS, made IntruShield the choice for Vignette's network.

Vignette's Enterprise Content Management (ECM) products and services help organizations capture information, streamline business processes, share knowledge and access relevant information while becoming more efficient and complying with corporate regulations. IntruShield is instrumental in blocking worm and virus attacks, which provides their network firewalls with more memory for other processing functions. Additionally, with IntruShield, Vignette can quantify network activity.

"McAfee maintains its position as the leader in intrusion prevention and security risk management by delivering next-generation solutions that meet and exceed customer needs, as well as ever-increasing market demand," said Vince Rossi, senior vice president product marketing and product management at McAfee, Inc. "Through continued technology evolution and constant product innovation to deliver unequaled customer and business benefits, McAfee has defined the intrusion prevention market, and has become the vendor of choice for leading companies like Vignette that need proactive security solutions that offer the best attack prevention in the industry."

McAfee IntruShield network IPS delivers unparalleled proactive protection against known and zero-day attacks, while McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i redefines next-generation anti-virus by integrating intrusion prevention and firewall technology into a single agent, providing advanced protection for PCs and servers. McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator enables the management and enforcement of system security policies transparently and enforces updates or upgrades required to effectively monitor system security. McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise integrates seamlessly with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, adding an essential layer of protection for small to large businesses that need proactive protection from the rampant problem of spyware.
