Vigilar Launches OptimalSecurity Magazine

Vigilar, Inc., an information security consulting firm, announced that it has launched OptimalSecurity magazine, a quarterly publication published by Vigilar with contributed insight from leading information security technology innovators across the country. Written for information security risk executives and strategists, OptimalSecurity addresses the latest information security risk challenges faced daily by risk managers and offers solutions they need to be successful in establishing their optimal security posture.
OptimalSecurity Magazine's Objectives
Palaniswamy (Raj) Rajan, Vigilar's President and CEO and Publisher of OptimalSecurity, said, "Our goals for this publication are two-fold: The first goal is to help organizations make cost-effective business decisions that protect them from attack or misuse. Vigilar has helped hundreds of risk management professionals wade through industry standards and audits, understand regulations, build technology selection criteria, and plan support needs. We want to share this knowledge so that other organizations can achieve their optimal security posture. We have also solicited the opinions from information security experts and thought leaders across the U.S. who have, within the magazine, addressed real-world challenges with solid business advice.
"The second goal for this publication is to create a community," Rajan continued. "Simultaneous with OptimalSecurity's launch is the launch of optimalsecurity.com, where readers will find an expanded, online version of the magazine. Here readers have access to insight and commentary from business and industry leaders, security professionals, and everyday users of security technology who will detail first hand the challenges they have encountered and the ways they have addressed them. Subscribers will also have access to case studies and white papers on numerous infosec topics.
"We're also putting these strategists in touch with one another through our interactive blog, where they can share their thoughts and experiences with other professionals facing similar security and compliance challenges. With the printed and online versions of OptimalSecurity, we feel we have created a definitive resource for the information security risk management community."
Understanding OptimalSecurity
Concurrent with the launch of OptimalSecurity, Vigilar also announced today its Optimal Security Model (OSM)(TM), a methodical approach to establishing an organization-wide optimal security posture through standards-based best practices, advanced technology knowledge, and continuous improvement framework. Every business, every risk, every threat, every network, presents a distinct situation requiring a unique solution, but the end result should be the same: Each organization needs to operate at its own, unique optimal security level.
OSM establishes communication and workflow from the beginning so that senior management and information security professionals understand exactly what needs to be done and when. It also enhances static checklists with processes that integrate easily into business operations. Each step makes sense across the organization from both a business and an IT perspective.
OSM puts organizations in control of risk management by gaining the ability to adapt to constantly changing business scenarios and IT infrastructures. Ongoing security improvements become a transparent part of doing business, with as little impact on normal operations as possible.
Rajan continued, "OSM was the culmination of years of experience working with hundreds of organizations. We realized early on that no two organizations share identical key assets, vulnerabilities, business practices, compliance requirements or partners, and to attempt to move every organization under a generic model's umbrella would certainly not create complete organization-wide optimal security for everyone. This is why Vigilar's model is unique. Through OSM, Vigilar takes into account all the variables for each organization and creates a project plan that establishes optimal security on the level appropriate for each organization."
OptimalSecurity Editorial Advisory Board
In order to better understand and address the latest information security risk management issues facing executives today, OptimalSecurity is establishing an Editorial Advisory Board. The objective of this advisory board - to be comprised of approximately eight information security risk professionals - will be to provide editorial guidance for the magazine.
Jeffrey Reich, CISSP, CHS-III, CTM and Information Security Officer for CompuCredit, is Chairman of the OptimalSecurity Editorial Advisory Board. "I believe OptimalSecurity and its online counterpart presents a tremendous opportunity to get the infosec community together and strategize about overcoming our daily and long-term challenges. Then to put down to paper and distribute this information to C-level, VP and IT information security pros across the US and to regularly share this information in an collaborative environment will help us to move faster and more effectively in the fight against criminal attacks."
C-level, vice president or executive strategists are invited to participate on the OptimalSecurity Editorial Advisory Board. Time commitment includes one conference call per month. Interested professionals should email the editor at editor@optimalsecurity.com. 04.11.2005, Vigilar, Inc.
