PlusNet leads clean internet revolution with StreamShield’s unique silicon-based content security technology

PlusNet, one of the UK’s most innovative and leading ISPs, announces that it is running a technical trial of StreamShield’s high speed clean internet platform. StreamShield’s technology enables ISPs to provide their subscribers with real-time protection against viruses, spyware, adware, inappropriate content and other internet threats.

Recent research conducted by NOP shows that over half of the consumers questioned (51%) want their ISP to block spyware applications, and only 30% run spyware checks on their system. Deployed within the ISP’s network, StreamShield’s technology delivers comprehensive protection without the ISP’s customers having to install, configure and maintain specialist software in their PCs.

StreamShield achieves the unprecedented levels of performance demanded by large-scale service provider networks through a unique silicon-based scanning engine called StreamScan. Designed to scan up to 250,000 web page requests per second, StreamScan enables highly personalised content security protection to be delivered within the service provider’s network without diminishing network performance.

Dean Sadler, Development Director at PlusNet, comments: "PlusNet are renowned for providing innovative and exciting new services to customers. We believe that clean internet services provided in the network will protect customers from the growing range of internet threats and provide value to our business. We are pleased to be trialling StreamShield’s technology as part of our overall approach to customer security.”

John Wanklyn, VP Sales at StreamShield, adds: "We are delighted that one of the UK’s leading ISPs, PlusNet, is testing our technology and experiencing network-based content security. We are working closely with them to understand their requirements and helping them to create new and exciting content security services for their customers.”
