Conference on Satellite Signal Theft Addresses Piracy and Fraud in the Content-Everywhere Environmen

Conscious of the impact of lost revenues and risk to their networks, the commercial satellite and TV broadcast industry has introduced many extra security measures to combat illegal access to their signals and systems. Some security experts, however, doubt that many of the extra measures that have been implemented will be completely effective against future attack.

Based on fears of widespread and growing undermining of intellectual property rights, industry executives are pressing for tighter regulation and better ways to pursue and secure prosecution both through the civil courts, and by supporting law enforcement in criminal investigations.
Carpe Diem will hold a conference on Satellite Signal Theft at the Inmarsat Conference Centre in London on 1 and 2 February 2006. The conference will highlight the legal, commercial and technical issues and solutions for preventing piracy in the global Satellite, Television and Broadcast industries.

The event’s agenda will feature presentations by dedicated international industry organisations, such as the European Association for the Protection of Encrypted Works and Services (APEOC) and its North American partner organisation, the Coalition Against Satellite Signal Theft (CASST), as well as the Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group (SUIRG). Other speakers include the Vice President Security at British Telecom, the Director of Security at British pay TV operator BSkyB, the Head of Security Response at German pay TV channel Premiere and the Vice President Satellite and Network Operations at international satellite network operator Inmarsat.

The conference will provide a platform for professionals from the sectors of TV broadcasting and satellite operation to discuss these legal and technical challenges with the providers of countermeasures and representatives from regulation authorities and legal bodies.
