Plug-and-play multi-purpose device simplifies IT management and user adoption

Gemalto, a world leader in digital security, and Utimaco, The Data Security Company, jointly introduce an innovative USB (Universal Serial Bus) device that features two functionalities in an "all-in-one” solution. Not only does it manage network identity credentials, but it also provides users with additional memory to securely store confidential data. Utimaco supplies data protection, while Gemalto provides the strong authentication software and the personal device. This solution, named "Secure Digital Companion”, automatically sets up once the device is connected to the PC, making it simple and convenient to deploy and use. At CeBIT 2007, both companies are presenting their joint solution at the Utimaco booth, stand A 28, Hall 7.

"Secure Digital Companion” is aimed at enterprises whose employees require secure remote access from any location and protection of their portable personal data. Its mass storage capacities enable employees to transfer and exchange confidential data within and outside the company, with the highest levels of security. Users do not need to handle specific actions to perform data encryption as this is done automatically, minimizing IT support and reducing total cost of ownership for enterprises. "Secure Digital Companion” will allow users to securely access their enterprise Intranet through OATH* compliant one-time passwords displayed on the device. It also implements certificates for digital signature and e-mail confidentiality.

Helmut Dansachmüller, head of global alliances at Utimaco, underlined: "We welcome the partnership with Gemalto to bring an all-in-one security solution to our clients and end users. "Secure Digital Companion” offers flexibility and efficiency because all confidential data is protected no matter where the end users are working and their data may go. This emphasizes our commitment as the Data Security Company to protect data wherever it is - at rest, in motion and in use. "

Cédric Collomb, senior vice-president, network identification solutions, Gemalto, added: "The synergies between Gemalto and Utimaco will help our enterprise customers to better protect their assets and facilitate user adoption. This product launch further illustrates our dedication to making digital interactions secure and easy.”

The joint solution is now available from a number of Gemalto partners.

OATH*: OATH is an industry-wide collaboration to develop an open reference architecture by leveraging existing open standards for the universal adoption of strong authentication
