With the newest version of the AppGate Security Server, version 8.1, AppGate has incorporated many customer requests and strengthens its position as a company in the forefront of security being able to offer a complete security solution for securing access to all types of applications regardless of client or server platform.

AppGate is with version 8.1 the first company in the world that can offer over-the-air provisioning and prepare mobile phones for Mobile VPN. Two text messages are sent to the smart phone that automatically configures the client with user settings and enables Mobile VPN functionality. At the same time the user’s e-mail account is configured together with secure access to the intranet.

The new version of the AppGate Security Server uses FIPS 140-2 certified libraries for all crypto-related functionality. Much work has also been done in the field of authentication and roles and rights management. Yet another area where the server is further improved is in the graphical user interface for the administrator and disk mirroring is now supported for extra high availability in larger appliances.

The new version of the security server supports Kerberos. With Kerberos support, a user can experience single sign-on functionality by not having to log on to the AppGate server if he/she is already logged on to an AD domain. Also in the line of authentication comes the support for multiple LDAP/AD account sources and support for multiple Radius authentication servers.

"The AppGate products give the security manager the necessary tools to control application protection and access from one place instead of having to manage several different point products”, said Tomas Olovsson, CTO at AppGate. "This means we must work in co operation with the existing environment, seamlessly exchanging the necessary data needed to protect and secure it.”

The new and improved features in version 8.1 include:

* Kerberos Authentication
* Over the air mobile phone provisioning
* Support for multiple roles in one session
* Certifications
* Administrative improvements, like GUI for managing multiple LADP/AD servers, Support for multiple radius servers and more.
* Secure Mobile Office

The new version 8.1 builds on existing proven functionality in the AppGate Security Server such as:

* Mobile VPN
* Remote access
* Network Access Control
* Internal Secure Domains
