Benelux’s based Fortis Bank concludes contract with Beta Systems for the use of SAM Jupiter

Benelux based Fortis Bank will in future be managing the user accounts of its more than 40,000 users and their access rights to internal bank IT systems and business applications using the SAM Jupiter identity management system software provided by Berlin software company Beta Systems Software AG. Beta Systems Software AG (Prime Standard: BSS) in cooperation with its Benelux partner Adinsec is announcing the conclusion of a contract to this effect. A member of Fortis, Fortis Bank, has seven million customers across its banking and investment divisions and is one of Europe’s leading financial institution for business customers.
The contract concerns the acquisition by Fortis Bank Belgium, Fortis Bank.
Netherlands and Banque Générale du Luxembourg of a corporate license for the products SAM Jupiter (with 13 target system interfaces and the workflow component), SAM Role Miner, SAM Password Synchronization and SAM Password Reset and the connectors SAM uConnect and SAM eConnect. The contract also includes a maintenance agreement covering the above.
"We were looking for a provider that could offer, among other strengths, many years of successful practical experience with a role-based approach to user administration", explains Arsène Braun, Security Management team leader at Banque Générale du Luxembourg. "We started by evaluating the entire provider market", recounts Marc Simoens, security architect at Fortis Bank in Belgium. "In this event we have discovered that the SAM Jupiter standard solution can be integrated into the existing security architecture at Fortis Bank without substantial customizing work", he continues.
Fortis Bank intends to introduce the first implementations of role-based security administration for all IT platforms using the SAM Jupiter product by the end of the year. This will allow centralized access to corporate IT systems and internal bank business applications and make the management of access security both more secure and more cost-effective. The access rights of bank staff are bundled into roles in business processes. If an employee’s role in the company changes, user rights modifications, additions as well as deletions are automatically passed on to the connected systems through local provisioning. Also integration with the Human Resources systems and corresponding job-related employee data stored in an LDAP directory are part of the implementation. All user rights can be displayed in one global view, which considerably simplifies checks and audits.
"We appreciate the confidence shown in us by Fortis Bank", says Karl-Joachim Veigel, CEO at Beta Systems Software AG. "Ever increasing competitive and cost pressures in the international financial sector and ever greater demands on IT security as a result of the growth of electronic business and payment transactions need not be irreconcilable foes. Our powerful centralized IT tools can automate cost-intensive operations and offer customers improved access protection based closely on their business process landscape despite the difficult prevailing economic conditions", Veigel affirms. 11.05.2004, BETA Systems
