Seeking to clarify the essential components of a robust enterprise Web services security solution, Reactivity, Inc. and Netegrity, Inc., announced the availability of the first fully integrated software-hardware solution that enterprises can use to rapidly deploy secure, identity-based Web services. Combining the security offerings from both companies, the joint solution gives Web services architects and security administrators an effective means of applying their identity management infrastructure to Web services authorization and authentication decisions. The solution centralizes control of security policy, implementation and integration, providing the ability to deploy secure Web services rapidly and reliably. By combining protection from XML-based threats, such as viruses and DOS attacks, with a consistent security policy enforcement mechanism, the Reactivity-Netegrity solution empowers enterprises to deploy critical Web services in heterogeneous environments with confidence that the enterprise is secure, maintaining scalable operations and delivering any-to-any interoperability.

The integrated solution combines the centralized access management capabilities of Netegrity® TransactionMinder® technology and the deep secure Web services policy enforcement of the Reactivity XML Firewall(TM) appliances. The two companies' products work in concert to secure and validate the content of XML or SOAP messages, ensuring that only authorized parties can access Web services, eliminating any content-borne threats and keeping track of who or what is trying to access enterprise Web services. The combined Reactivity-Netegrity solution also helps to speed the deployment of secure Web services by decoupling security from Web services development and performing all protocol and transport mediation, eliminating time-consuming and costly custom security programming, infrastructure integration and deployment policy maintenance for each XML Web service application.

"Organizations need to think about Web services security in the context of the company's overall identity and access management infrastructure to ensure that they are able to enforce and implement authentication, authorization, auditing, and federation uniformly across the enterprise," said Vadim Lander, CTO at Netegrity. "Today's announcement demonstrates how using the Netegrity® Web Services Reference Architecture as a guideline, enterprises can draw upon the expertise of Netegrity and partners like Reactivity to create a Web services architecture that is secure, manageable and scalable."

"Reactivity is the first to deliver a Web services security appliance so intimately linked to Netegrity's identity and access management solutions, and no other hardware vendor comes even close to offering this level of integration today," said Glenn Osaka, CEO and president of Reactivity. "We have worked hard to ensure that our products work together seamlessly so that enterprises can effortlessly and intelligently leverage the leading solutions for identity and access management and secure Web services deployment."

The Reactivity XML Firewall Management Console provides an administrator with the option of having messages authenticated and authorized by the Netegrity Policy Server using TransactionMinder. In this case, the entire SOAP or XML message is sent to the Policy Server for evaluation. The TransactionMinder agent on the Reactivity XML Firewall then queries the Netegrity Policy Server to determine if the user identified in the message is authenticated and authorized to access the specific Web service. The Reactivity XML Firewall is also integrated with Netegrity® SiteMinder®.

The combined Reactivity-Netegrity solution will be on display on the show floor in booths #417 and #518 during the three-day Gartner IT Security Summit being held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, June 7-9.
