CipherTrust TrustedSource Provides Unique Reputation-Based E-Mail Validation

CipherTrust, Inc., provider of comprehensive messaging security, announced TrustedSource™, the Company's reputation-based e-mail authentication tool as part of IronMail 4.1, the latest version of the award-winning appliance. TrustedSource enhances the identification of legitimate senders by leveraging CipherTrust's research capabilities, automated behavioral monitoring techniques and the experience of the seven million IronMail-protected enterprise e-mail boxes to objectively determine reputation. TrustedSource is not a "pay-to-play" or bonded type of program, and as such cannot be affected by influence -- financial or otherwise -- from spammers and marketers.
Unlike sender-based whitelist approaches recently introduced in the industry, a message verified by TrustedSource does not automatically bypass IronMail's other spam detection techniques. TrustedSource is used as an additional data point within IronMail's Spam Profiler, the unique correlation engine utilizing a "cocktail" approach of anti-spam techniques to more accurately identify and eliminate spam.
"CipherTrust does not subscribe to the school of thought that e-mail sender reputation systems should be based on a pay-to-play mechanism," said Dr. Paul Judge, chief technology officer at CipherTrust. "Aiding and abetting the spam industry is totally counter to everything that CipherTrust stands for. Rather, identifying legitimate e-mail senders should be based on an objective reputation determined by a combination of expert research and cutting-edge technology. We have a commitment to our customers that e-mail remains the effective and efficient communication tool it was intended, and the addition of TrustedSource into IronMail will help CipherTrust continue to deliver on that commitment."
The introduction of TrustedSource is the latest in a series of innovative techniques CipherTrust has incorporated into IronMail to fight spam, phishing and spoofing. In February, CipherTrust was the first messaging security and anti-spam solution provider to incorporate the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) authentication protocol into its product offering. In addition, in conjunction with Microsoft's announcement two weeks ago that its Caller ID proposal will merge with SPF, CipherTrust announced that it will integrate the new protocol arising from the merger of the two into IronMail. CipherTrust is continuing to work with other members of the e-mail ecosystem to define and deploy other e-mail authentication protocols, including Yahoo's DomainKeys.
IronMail 4.1 is available immediately, and includes enhancements to graphical reporting capabilities, and the ability to securely reply to messages accessed via Webmail programs such as Outlook Web Access and Lotus iNotes. 08.06.2004, CipherTrust, Inc.
