Technologies and Solutions for Homeland Security Requirements Exhibited at GOVSEC

Information Technology (IT) products and services designed to support the war against terrorism will be a prominent focus of GOVSEC, The Government Security Expo and Conference, July 28-29 at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.

National, state, and local government officials responsible for the securing their agency's information assets can participate in eight conference sessions to discuss the foremost concerns for public sector IT security professionals. Attendees will hear from government and industry experts involved in information security policy, strategy, and technology implementations, and learn about key government regulations such as the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA). Sessions topics include policies and regulations for security programs, strategies for managing secure enterprises, case studies and practical analysis of proven technologies in use today, and a look into emerging security technologies.

GOVSEC IT, a special pavilion located within the GOVSEC Exposition, is designed to give attendees an opportunity to identify, evaluate, and compare multiple security tools and strategies at once. More than 85 IT vendors will showcase up-to-the minute technologies -- including encryption and authentication, secure communications, identity management and credentialing, biometrics and more.

In addition to the GOVSEC IT pavilion, attendees will have access to the entire GOVSEC Exposition, as well as two related events -- U.S. Law Enforcement Conference and Exposition (U.S. LAW) and READY!, The Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition. Combined, these three, collocated programs bring together the key players and feature nearly 500 industry leaders who are focused on meeting the requirements of the government security, law enforcement, and emergency response community.

Attendees will see a range of IT products and services, including technology for access control, anti-hacking, biological and chemical agent detection, biometrics, contingency planning, disaster recovery, HAZMAT, e- security, intrusion detection, perimeter protection, personal protection devices, bomb disposal and chemical warfare equipment, surveillance and monitoring equipment, canine training and handling equipment, electronic countermeasure devices, EMS equipment, invisible detection materials, mobile command centers and supplies, and portable decontamination centers and housing.

In its third year, GOVSEC has become the leading national forum for federal, state, and local government professionals responsible for physical and cyber security. The conference program includes twenty sessions presented by security veterans who will discuss diverse concerns for government professionals, including the challenges of secure information- sharing, which departments are meeting their security objectives, the role of the Chief Security Officer, and current case studies from the security frontline.

In its second year, U.S. LAW addresses national requirements for interagency communication and technological innovation throughout the law enforcement community. Sixteen sessions examine priority topics for law enforcement professionals, including; terrorism, street drugs, electronic crime scenes, wireless and mobile identification, voice analysis and other tools required by officers in the post 9/11 environment.

New for 2004, READY!, The Emergency Preparedness and Response Conference and Exposition, concentrates on the key areas of emergency response and homeland security -- preparation, prevention, response, and recovery. READY! is an ideal discussion forum for emergency planners and first responders throughout the public sector to address the Department of Homeland Security's National Response Plan (NRP) and National Incident Management System (NIMS). These recently-established initiatives prescribe emergency response protocols for federal, state, and local governments in their efforts to manage natural and manmade disasters.

Asa Hutchinson, Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security, U.S. Department of Homeland Security will deliver a featured keynote address in a joint session GOVSEC, U.S. LAW, and READY! on Thursday, July 29, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Dr. David Kay, the former Special Advisor on Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction to the Director of Central Intelligence, will keynote on Wednesday, July 28, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Colonel Edward Badolato, USMC (Ret), Former Deputy Secretary of Energy, will speak during a luncheon presentation at noon on Wednesday, July 28, 2004.
