Panda Software Releases Early Version of Its New TruPREVENT Technology
Panda Software has been busy designing its new solutions for 2005 that will protect computer users against the new types of computer threats that seem to spread almost instantly. Panda Software answers these threats with its TruPREVENT technologies which will be a key feature for all Panda solutions in the coming year. Panda's new technology will help detect and stop threats even without virus signatures so that new and unknown threats can be stopped before causing damage to the user.
"This is an exciting new technology that will revolutionize the virus and threat detection protection available to computer users," said Patrick Hinojosa, CTO for Panda Software US. "Not only will this technology provide serious enhancements to our current line of award winning solutions but this will be a technology that can be run on computers running another companies antivirus solutions providing an additional layer of protection that is unprecendented protection and a layer of protection that is not available from our competitiors."
A study of 10 major virus outbreaks from January -- March 2004 shows that the average response time from when a virus first appeared to when antivirus manufacturers supplied a signature file to the customer was almost 7 hours. Considering the speed at which e-mail and other types of viruses spread Panda Software developers knew this was too long and wanted to provide a better solutions. Many threats today can spread much faster as they are launched to thousands of computer much like spam e-mailings. This can cause epidemics even if a computer is protected with many of the better known software solutions currently available.
"While Panda Software will officially release its full solutions later this year, this technology is needed now and we are able to release this stand alone solution now for computer users to help against the onslaught of attacks that computer users are having to deal with today. We felt it very important to help the user and release an early version of this new category of protection now to further protect our users and users of other antivirus solutions," said Sarita Stachelrodt, GM Panda Software US.
TruPrevent Technologies have the goal of acting against unknown viruses and intruders, evolving through time and adapting to new threats that put in risk the systems of the users. Among them, the following stand out:
* Detection and blocking of unknown worms and Trojans on the basis of the analysis of the behavior of processes executed on the computer. This involves monitoring any processes that are initiated, and blocking them if they are dangerous, thus stopping the spread of worms. This technology makes it possible to stop infections of the types caused by malware such as BugBear, Nimda, Klez, SirCam or LoveLetter, even if these have not previously been identified.
* Can be run with Antivirus Solutions from companies other than Panda Software providing an additional layer of protection for the computer user. Panda effectively enables the computer user to run a second antivirus solution on a computer system.
* TruPrevent Technologies take a preventive not a reactive approach, automatically intercepting the problem without the need for human intervention and no false positives
* Latest generation protection against all kinds of Internet threats including; viruses, spam, spyware, dialers, hoaxes, hacking tools
* Block suspicious items while preventing them from spreading.
* As soon as they are detected, they can also be sent to PandaLabs, with the users permission, for further study.
* Manage internal white lists maintained by the TruPrevent Technologies, to allow process that are not malicious to be excluded. These lists are updated daily or as needed.
* Firewall-Like technology.
* Malicious network packet detector. This technology is able to detect and block packets with malicious content whenever they attempt to enter or leave a network computer and protects network services against attempts to exploit vulnerabilities, acting as a complement to other technologies. This would have prevented epidemics such as those caused by SQLSlammer, Code Red or Sasser.
* Protection against buffer overflows. These vulnerabilities are now common flaws in many applications and they are one of the most common ways of launching attacks against IT systems. Such attacks are based on over-running part of the memory used by the application with more data than it can hold. So once attackers know the quantity of data needed to overflow the buffer, they overrun the memory with executable code containing the attack code.

TruPREVENT Technologies create a new category in computer security and protection and is the first layer of proactive defense against unknown viruses that doesn't rely on "signature files" to stop the new threats. This means that detection is not based on signs of infection, but on the correlation of a series of actions made by the process from when it first starts to execute in memory. This provides greater reliability, as well as the capacity for the technologies to take decisions automatically. Furthermore Panda's TruPrevent solution is also designed to run on top of existing antivirus software.
