Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) has been recognized by industry analyst firm IDC as the overall 2003 global revenue leader in intrusion detection and prevention (ID&P) in a report, titled: "Worldwide Intrusion Detection and Prevention 2004-2008 Forecast and 2003 Vendor Shares: Introducing the FireDoor" October 2004, document # 32004. Capturing more than 30-percent of the worldwide intrusion detection and prevention software market, ISS dominated the combined intrusion detection and prevention market which includes network and host- based software products. On the hardware front, the Proventia(TM) intrusion detection and prevention appliances, released in mid-2003, shot to the second position in the intrusion detection and prevention appliance market in 2003. ISS also continued to lead the network intrusion detection and prevention software sub-market for the fifth consecutive year with 47-percent market share.

"Intrusion detection and prevention technology is a critical aspect of enterprise defense and ISS continues to demonstrate its worldwide market share leadership," said Charles Kolodgy, research director for security products at IDC. "IDC forecasts strong demand in next-generation intrusion prevention and detection products, projecting the appliance market alone to grow by 29.9% compound annual growth rate to a total figure of $825.4 million by 2008."

As enterprises increasingly look to a single security vendor to protect their entire organization from desktops, servers and networks to remote offices and wireless access points, ISS continues to illustrate ongoing leadership in the enterprise IT security space. This announcement comes on the heels of another IDC report, where ISS was named the world leader in corporate desktop firewall software.

"IDC's latest market share results further validate ISS' ability to execute on our recent announcement of the Proventia Enterprise Security Platform (ESP)," said Cheri Maat, vice president, marketing for Internet Security Systems. "Encompassing the world's most trusted security products, Proventia ESP satisfies both organizations looking for enterprise-wide solutions and those seeking best of the breed products."

Proventia ESP combines vulnerability assessment with threat prevention under a centralized management system, tightly integrated with existing IT security operations. Unlike traditional approaches to security which focus on improving reaction times, Proventia ESP enables organizations to immediately shield security vulnerabilities across their entire IT infrastructure - before attacks are released.

IDC's recent announcement rounds out ISS' market share dominance in nearly every market segment that makes up Proventia ESP, namely:

* Number one in the overall worldwide intrusion prevention and detection market.
* Number one in the worldwide corporate desktop firewall market.
* Number one in the network vulnerability assessment market.
